BENEFIT FOR TOMMY...We received some very difficult news a couple of months back when we learned that our dear friend and great drummer, Tommy Mastro, has ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Gehrig was known as "The Iron Horse" because of his stamina and strength, playing 2,140 consecutive games for the NY Yankees. For anyone who knows Tommy, he's also an "Iron Man" and this news has shaken all of us. But Tommy is strong in Faith and he wants to spend the rest of his Time working to help jump start awareness for people who suffer from ALS and the need for funding into research for this deadly disease.

Tommy was the original drummer for The Discontent and played drums on the very 1st DownTown Mystic sessions. We last saw Tommy down in Nashville in 2010 when we were in town for the Americana Festival. Tommy had moved to Nashville the year before and was already becoming a fixture in the Honky Tonks on Broadway.

On June 9 there was a Benefit for Tommy at The Headliner in Neptune, NJ. Tommy came up North for the Benefit and the chance to see his family and friends in the area. The Headliner was packed with people (at least 500) and it was the perfect Shore day to come out and enjoy the Benefit. I saw Tommy at the start of the event and was amazed at his courage and strength all day, greeting and talking with visitors for over 5 hours without a break!

Everybody got to see and show Tommy some love. It was truly a great time and an experience none of us will soon forget. If you couldn't make the Benefit and would like to contribute to Tommy's cause, please visit:

DownTown Mystic has released the "Lost & Found" Single to benefit Tommy and is now available on BandCamp: http://downtownmystic.bandcamp.com/track/lost-found-single

All proceeds from the sale of the single go directly to Tommy.

Sha-La Music/The Orchard is also releasing the "Lost & Found" 3-Song Digital 45 on 6/11/13, with all proceeds from the sale of the Digital 45 also going to Tommy.

Little did we know how much of a new meaning the song would take on. After speaking with him a few weeks ago, we found the lyrics to "Lost & Found" to be eerily appropriate to Tommy's situation. You would never know, talking to Tommy, he has a fatal disease. He comes through as he always has--strong and positive.

Also, DownTown Mystic has released a new video for a track on the new Digital 45 called "Breathe". The track was co-written with The Discontent and features the band backing DownTown Mystic. The video is a tribute to Tommy and his time with The Discontent.

BIG SYNC NEWS!! THE BIG MAN DELIVERS...AGAIN and AGAIN!! Our man in Chicago--Eddie Caldwell, has come up big for us with a sync license for the CW TV show, The Carrie Diaries! 1st Eddie placed the song "Fly Like The Wind", written & produced by Robert Allen for a project called Used Records on the show. Now Eddie has done it again by getting a 2nd song called "I Live For Your Love" (also written & produced by Robert) placed on the show. Both songs were picked for the show by top taste-making Music Supervisor, Alexandra Patsavas at Chop Shop Music in LA.

A single of "Fly Like The Wind" plus 2 other songs has been released on Eddie's Music of The Sea: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/fly-like-the-wind-ep/id616307854

"The Carrie Diaries" is a prequel to "Sex and the City". Set in 1984, the show follows 17 yr old Carrie Bradshaw in HS and her first forays into NYC. The show airs on the CW: http://www.cwtv.com/shows/the-carrie-diaries

Last month we had the great pleasure of seeing our favorite band play--The Band of Heathens rocked the Mercury Lounge in NYC!! Met Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist, the 2 founding members, before the show. Later, got to hang at the After Party at Zir ZaminNYC with ace bartender Ethan & ZZMgr. Jack, checking out some Comedy in the back room. Club has a really cool vibe with Lone Star Beer in the fridge...needless to say...it was a great time! Owner Paul Oveisi brought the band back from the Mercury and we got to meet bass player Nick Jay and keyboardman Trevor Nealon...while drummer Richard Millsap was occupied...lol These guys are so down-to-earth and have such a cool vibe about them, that it was a bit surreal to actually talk to Gordy, after having devoured their recordings over the past few years. Gotta LOVE that!! Can't wait to hear new music from The Heathens after hearing some new songs in their set at the Mercury Lounge. Check out The Band of Heathens: http://www.bandofheathens.com/
